Leg Bands

Leg bands have traditionally been used by and manufactured for breeders and those who show poultry. In the last several years, leg bands have started to become more popular among backyard poultry enthusiasts. Here at Happy Hen Treats®, we strive to offer leg bands that are the most user friendly on the market. Traditional leg bands can be difficult to put on; Happy Hen Treats® leg bands help make that process easier.

Personalization

Happy Hen Treats® EZ Leg Bands are wide enough to personalize with a marker, should you choose to do so. Below are some tips to ensure the longevity of the personalization. It's quick and easy to do - for 24 bands the process takes about 10 minutes!

  • Lightly sand area
  • Clean sanded area with rubbing alcohol
  • Personalize with UV resistant marker
  • Allow marker time to dry before handling
  • Optional: Use a clear paint to spray over marker. Make sure paint dries completely before handling or banding your chicken.

Banding

Open band and place it around the bird's leg. Once it's around the leg and you have determined it is the proper fit, press the band on either side until you hear it "click." For a more permanent option, consider placing a drop of fast-drying superglue rated for outdoor use in the band's opening. Superglue will not harm the bird but you should test the amount of glue that comes out before trying to glue the band to avoid gluing the band to the bird's leg. Do NOT glue the band together on growing birds.

Permanent markers may not stay on the band for the duration of the birds life. Handling your birds often and properly will not only allow you to touch up the identification but will also allow you to inspect your birds for any health related complications. Your birds will be able to trust you and the process will become easier. If it is very difficult to get your birds to come near you, we recommend you get one of Happy Hen Treats® premium chicken treats to entice them.
